Preparation Method :

  • Boil 4 cups of water in a pan over medium heat. Add the tomatoes and cook uncovered till tender.
  • Stir in the tomato puree with spice powder and adjust seasoning with salt. Stir well.
  • Add the spring onions, ginger and garlic. Continue simmering over medium heat for 2 minutes.
  • When the rasam comes to a boil, add the prawns. Cook over medium heat for about 3-5 minutes or until prawns turn pink. Stir in the coriander leaves and serve hot.


  • 250 Grams fresh prawns, peeled, deveined, washed and drained
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper and cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon rasam powder
  • 75 grams coarsely chopped tomatoes
  • 50 grams tomato puree
  • 30 grams chopped spring onions
  • ½ teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • Salt, to taste
  • 30 grams chopped fresh coriander leaves
