Preparation Method :

  • Grind the dhal, gradually adding little water to make a thick, slightly coarse batter.
  • Add the onions, green chilies, coriander and ginger and mix well. Adjust seasoning with salt.
  • Heat the oil in a deep frying pan or wok over medium heat.
  • Place a damp cloth on your palm and put about 1 ½ tablespoon of batter on it.
  • Form the batter into a doughnut shape and transfer the vadai directly into the hot oil. Fry till one side is cooked and golden brown. Turn and fry the other side, till golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towels. Make the remaining vadai in the same way.
  • Serve hot with coconut chutney.


  • 200 grams urad dhal, rinsed, soaked and drained
  • 50 grams finely chopped fresh coriander
  • 50 grams finely chopped onions
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • Salt, to taste
  • Peanut/IDHAYAM Sesame Oil for deep-frying
