Preparation Method :

  • The Tempering: Drop the oil in a pan over medium heat. When hot, add the tempering ingredients.
  • Fry till the mustard seeds splutter and urad dhal turns golden.
  • Add the onions and green chilies. Cook over medium heat for about a minute.
  • Add the beans and adjust seasoning with salt and cook for about 2 minutes.
  • Mix in ginger. Cover and cook on low heat for about 3-5 minutes. Sprinkle water if needed.
  • When the beans are tender but still firm to bite, add the cooked dhal and the coconut. Stir well.
  • Make sure not to overcook the beans. Remove from heat and serve warm.


  • 250 grams topped, tailed and diced fresh green beans
  • ΒΌ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 30 grams moong dhal, rinsed, soaked, drained and cooked
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 30 grams grated fresh coconut
  • Salt, to taste


  • 1 tablespoon urad dhal
  • 1 tablespoon Cooking oil
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon black mustard seeds
