Preparation Method :

  • The Tempering: Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. When hot add the tempering ingredients. Fry till the mustard seeds splutter and urad dhal turns golden.
  • Immediately add the beans, ginger and green chilies. Stir well and add in the cumin powder.
  • Cook the dhal with of turmeric powder and 3 cups of water. Mash the cooked dhal. Adjust seasoning with salt.
  • Add the cooked dhal with just enough water to cover the beans. Cover and cook on low heat, till the beans turn tender, but still firm to bite.


  • 150 grams topped, tailed and diced French Beans
  • 100 grams moong dhal, cleaned, rinsed, soaked and drained
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • Salt, to taste


  • 1 tablespoon Cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon black mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon urad dhal
  • Few curry leaves
