Preparation Method :

  • Soak rice in water for 1 hour and drain.
  • Rub the rice into a semi-paste with your fingers.
  • Heat a heavy bottomed vessel, add the milk and bring to a boil and then simmer on low heat for 1-2 hours till it thickens and acquires a reddish tinge. Stir constantly.
  • Now add the rubbed rice.
  • Simmer on low heat for 2-3 hours.
  • Add khoya, Seeds, Cardomom and nuts.
  • When the rice has completely dissolved in the milk, add sugar and simmer on low heat for another 20 minutes till sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture thickens.
  • Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Decorate with edible silver foil and serve cold. 


  • 3 Litres milk
  • 150 grams rice
  • 1½ kg sugar
  • 375 grams khoya
  • 35 grams chironji seeds, finely chopped
  •  35 grams melon seeds , finely chopped
  • 35 grams watermelon seeds, finely chopped
  • 35 grams cashew nuts, finely chopped
  • 35 grams almonds , finely chopped
  • 35 grams pistachios, finely chopped
  • 10 pieces of cardomom
