Preparation Method :

  • Heat the Pan. Add in the dal with measured water, salt and turmeric. Simmer and cook for about 10 minutes until the dal is half cooked.
  • Add in the mango pieces and Cook for 10-15 minutes or till dal is tender and the mango pieces are cooked . Remove from heat and keep it aside.
  • Heat the fat in a pan and fry the mustard seeds till they splutter. Add chopped onion and garlic for 3-5 minutes followed by red chillies & curry leaves.
  • Add it to the cooked dal. If the dal is thick add little water, if needed. Serve hot with rice.


  • 150 grams red gram, soaked for 20 minutes
  • 1 unripe mango, peeled 
  • 1 onion - finely chopped 
  • 4 cloves garlic - finely chopped 
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder 
  • 1 tablespoon Cooking oil
  • ½ teaspoon mustard seeds 
  • 1 dry red chillies 
  • A few curry leaves 
  • Salt to taste
