Preparation Method :

  • Cook dal with salt, turmeric, green chilli, ginger and water for 10 -15 minutesin a pan .
  • Reduce to low flame for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and Keep it aside.
  • Heat ghee in a large pan at low flame. Add in all the spices together. Fry the spices on low flame for 10 -20 seconds.
  • Pour the hot dal into the five spice baghar. Mix well on fire for a few seconds. Serve hot.


  • 200 grams red gram dal 
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt , to taste
  • 1 green chilli - chopped finely 
  • ½ " piece ginger - grated 
  • 50 grams ghee

Five Spices

  • 2 pinches of fenugreek seeds 
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin seeds 
  • ¼ teaspoon aniseeds 
  • ¼ teaspoon thymol seeds
