Preparation Method :

  • In a heavy-bottomed pan, boil 1 litre of water. Add the black gram and cook over medium heat till the grains are just a little tender and begin to split.
  • Add the tomato paste, tomato puree, and cream; simmer for about an hour or two, till the black gram is soft and the mixture turns a rich red in colour.
  • Heat the ghee in a wok or pan, saute the ginger and add to the black gram mixture.
  • Add a dollop of white butter; serve hot garnished with a swirl of cream.


  • 500 grams Tomato puree
  • 300 grams Whole black gram  
  • 200 ml Cream
  • 220 grams Tomato paste
  • 50 grams White butter
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1" Ginger piece, julienned
  • 1 tablespoon Cream
