Preparation Method

  • Soak raw rice and par boiled rice in water for two hours.
  • Soak moong dhal separately.
  • Grate the coconut and ginger.
  • Spilt red chillies into two.
  • Grind the soaked rice varieties along with grated coconut, green chillies, salt and asafoetida.
  • Drain the moong dhal and mix it along with curd and cooking soda to the batter.
  • Add the grated ginger and coriander leaves.
  • Heat a teaspoon of Idhayam Sesame Oil. Temper mustard, urad dhal, chana dhal red chilli and curry leaves.
  • Add this to the batter.
  • Take an Appam pan, heat it. Pour the batter at the centre and swirl the pan in a circular motion.
  • Close with a lid, keep in a low flame until the Appam is done.
  • Serve with Radish Chutney.
