Preparation Method

For Making the Filling

  • Combine grated Coconut and jaggery.
  • Heat the grated coconut and Jaggery in a low flame until it thickens .
  • Remove from fire and keep aside.
For the Rice Dough
  • Soak the rice and drain the water completely.
  • Dry the rice and pound it.
  • Heat water in a vessel, add salt, ghee and simmer to a low flame.
  • Add the rice flour and stir.
  • When it comes to a thick consistency,remove from fire.
  • Allow it cool and knead it.
  • Make into small balls.
Make Ela Ada
  • Place the rice dough on a greased banana leaf.
  • Place another greased banana leaf over the dough and press it slightly and flatten it.
  • Slowly remove the banana leaf, which is places over the ball.
  • Place the filling and spread all over the dough.
  • Fold the banana leaf.
  • Now the ela ada will be in a semi circle.
  • Make such ela ada with rest of the dough.
  • Boil water in a steamer.
  • Arrange the ela ada on a greased idli plate and steam it for ten minutes.
  • Remove from fire and serve.
