Preparation Method

  • Peel the skin of the yellow pumpkin and chop it.
  • Heat a pan with a tablespoon of Idhayam sesame oil.
  • Temper chana dhal and fry.
  • To this add red chillies, green chillies, asafoetida and fry.
  • Discard the red chillies, green chillies and keep aside.
  • Heat another pan with a tablespoon of Idhayam sesame oil when in becomes hot add the yellow pumpkin pieces, tamarind and close with a lid for two minutes.
  • Remove from fire and allow it to cool.
  • Grind together yellow pumpkin, tamarind, green chillies, red chillies and salt.
  • Combine the roasted dhal and grind it coarsely.
  • Transfer to a bowl.
  • Heat another pan with Idhayam sesame oil.
  • Temper mustard and curry leaves.
  • Add the ground pumpkin mixture, fry and remove from fire.
  • Serve it with idli, dosa or rice.
