Preparation Method

  • Pressure cook  toor dhal with turmeric powder.
  • To this add six cups of water, bring to boil. Add rice and salt.
  • Dice the vegetables.
  • Chop the onions finely and lengthwise.
  • Slit green chillies.
  • Chop the tomatoes lengthwise.
  • Heat a pan with Idhayam Sesame Oil, when it becomes hot, add asafoetida, mustard, fenugreek, curry leaves, onion, tomatoes and fry well.
  • Add the vegetables and fry.
  • Pour the tamarind extract, sambar powder, chilli powder and mix well.
  • When the vegetables are done, add this to the rice mixture and mix well until everything blends together.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
